Man killed in shooting at Prince George’s Mall – NBC4 Washington

A man was killed in a shooting at the Prince George’s Mall in Hyatsville, Maryland, Thursday afternoon, police said.

The shooting occurred during an apparent altercation in the mall’s food court, News4’s Jackie Benson reports. Hyatsville police, as well as county police and fire departments were called to the scene at 3500 East West Highway a few minutes after 4 p.m.

Police do not believe it was a random act and said there was no active threat. They said whether the victim was the intended target.

Several police cruisers, ambulances and fire trucks initially responded to the scene, and a large police presence remained around 5 p.m.

A man has been shot dead in the food court of the mall in Prince George’s County. Jackie Bunsen and Brad Freitas report from News4.

Police believe that the suspect or suspect fled the scene. There is no information on the suspects or motive. The police are interviewing witnesses.

“Our officers and local partners responded quickly and contacted witnesses, made contact with our mall security partners and obtained video footage,” said Hyattsville Police Chief Jarrod Towers.

“The mall in Prince George witnessed a shooting incident this afternoon inside the mall,” the mall said in a statement. “While this is an isolated incident, we are concerned nonetheless. We are grateful for the prompt response of PGCPD. We will continue to work collaboratively with them on their investigation.”

At least a dozen people were standing and sitting outside the mall while police investigated the shooting.

“It was crazy, you know, I was with my family and all that… So, we see a bunch of people running around, and I’m like, ‘Wait, a battle is about to go down. There was no fighting, man,” a witness told News4.

The mall was closed after the shooting but is expected to reopen on Friday.

Two teenage boys were arrested after A man was shot dead inside the same mall in March. DaQuan Dockery, 22, died inside a store in the mall. Two 16-year-old boys charged as adults.

“The mall in Prince George witnessed two murders this year,” Towers said. “The mall has ramped up its security efforts aggressively. We have a very strong partnership here with mall security and mall management.”
