Mariah Carey All I Want for Christmas Is You has become one of the biggest hits of the holiday season, but Carrie wants to take things to the next level by trying to officially brand the term “Christmas Queen.”
Carey introduced her trademark last March and the news was published in July. According to an application filed with the United States Trademark Office, the term trademark will cover a wide range of items such as lotions, perfumes, jewelry, mugs, clothing, foods, jewelry, and of course, music.
Lots of singers have come forward to show their opposition to the trademark claim. Singer Elizabeth Chan has filed a formal case against Carrie.
“Christmas has come before any of us on Earth, and hopefully soon after any of us on Earth,” Chan said Variety. “It’s not the right thing to do. Christmas is for everyone. It’s meant to be shared, not meant to be owned.”
“She’s trying to brand this in every way imaginable – clothes, liquor products, masks, dog collars – it’s all on the map,” she said.
Singer Darlene Love She also voiced her objection via a Facebook post.
“David Letterman officially declared I’m the Queen of Christmas 29 years ago, a year before ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ and at 81 I wouldn’t change anything,” she wrote on Facebook. “I’ve been in this field for 52 years, I’ve earned it and I can still take these notes! If Maria has a problem, contact David or my attorney!!”
Love sang “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” every year from 1986 to 2014 on Letterman’s Show.
Kari song “all I Want for Christmas Is You” It was released in 1994 and is on the charts every year.
