Drone footage captured from above a Florida lake shows the moment a large alligator spends man’s head. The victim somehow managed to survive the attack.

The video shows Juan Carlos La Verde swimming from a pier on Lake Thonotosassa with a huge crocodile in his direct path. After a few seconds, a man and an evil animal unexpectedly meet with a clear commotion that occurs in the water.

A splash of fluid can be seen from above as the 34-year-old attempts to reach shore, according to the footage.

La Verde, a former U.S. Air Force Pararescue and local firefighter and paramedic, described the crawler approximately 12 feet long.

“This thing wasn’t a little crocodile,” he said WFTS-TV Tampa said newly. “It would be funny if it was a little crocodile.”

“With the right stroke, all I could feel were the scales and the teeth, and then there I’m good to go,” he told the news outlet about the encounter. “So, what I think I did, what I felt like I did, was I immediately tried to open his jaws because I knew I was into an alligator.

“When I felt the teeth, I knew right away, and then when I opened it, I knew I had either turned it or turned me, but it was just as confused as I was, and then I let it go.”

La Verde found a way to swim to the pier and get himself out of the water before the Good Samaritan took him to the hospital. He even called 911 of his own accord to explain what had happened.

La Verde sustained serious injuries to his face and head. He needed a six-hour surgery at Tampa General Hospital to repair and rebuild the damage to his skull and head, according to a GoFundMe that was set up for him.

The Oldsmar firefighter was filming a promotional video of himself swimming in the lake at the time of the attack as he prepared for an upcoming race, a GoFundMe post details.

Despite the horrific injuries, he said he was “completely fine”.

“I’m actually better because that gave me a new perspective, you know, and a lot of people didn’t understand that,” he told WFTS.
